We survived the rain of the first day (despite our marque having no sides and the rain soaking us!)- and we were back again on Saturday the 18th for more workshops and shows!
Workshop One: Page to Stage (by Emma Robdale)
A hybrid workshop beginning with a short discussion upon why specific flowers/trees have can carry significant meanings, leading into a creative writing activity. Lines were then chosen from attendees writing, and they were asked to ‘perform’ them aloud indifferent voices/styles, and think about gesture and intonation. The session ended in a mini performance, which each participant receiving feedback upon their readings.
Workshop Two: Memoir Writing (by Samantha Glyn)
Samantha Glyn, who co-runs Birch-lit, has performed upon MixMatched stage, and runs her own anxiety and creative writing group, conducted this short introduction upon memoir writing – covering why our stories our important, how to write a good introduction, and a creative writing activity upon ‘first memories’
Birch/Match Poetry Slam
Our final event! – This year Birchington Literary festival joined together with MixMatched to put on our first BirchMatched Poetry SLAM! – We had eight sign-ups, many of whom were previous MixMatched performers, but also a few new participants! – The audience were asked to write the name of two acts that stood out most to them….
Winners (Both winners had attended Emma Robdale’s amazing ‘Page to Stage’ workshop that morning)
First Place: John – Who performed a passionate poem upon relationship dynamics/relationship dynamics going astray.
Second Place: Ellen – Who performed a poem upon her own sense of spirituality (about a healing shop which she had strong affiliation too closing down), she also performed the short poem she’d written in the Page to Stage workshop that morning.
